The new Tieline i-Mix G3 combines 6 essential
live remote broadcast products into one 16x9” box weighing
just 4 pounds and replaces tens of thousands of dollars of equipment.
It’s like having an entire remote truck in a single box. Tieline
is a talk show, sports, music and live event dream machine.
The i-Mix G3 was designed by live sports
radio and television event broadcasting specialists to integrate
communications, control and programming functions while significantly
reducing the setup time, personnel, wiring and signal distribution
costs.

Never before have so many powerful remote
broadcast elements come together in one compact box. Let’s
go through them together in more detail.
Codecs: There are 5 software
profiles offering unprecedented flexibility over POTS, ISDN, GSM
and IP* links.
- Mono mode – delivers bi-directional high
bandwidth mono audio over a single POTS,ISDN, GSM or IP link.
- Stereo mode – delivers separate right
and left channels over a single ISDN B channel or 2 x B channels.
Tieline is the first to offer 15khz phase locked stereo over 2
x Analogue telephone lines. You can also achieve up to 24 bit,
20kHz uncompressed low delay audio over IP*.
- Mono/IFB – (over POTS, ISDN and IP) delivers
a bi-directional mono channel for program plus a separate full
bandwidth off-air communications channel. You can even use the
additional telephone coupler for a second communications link
without interrupting your broadcast.
- Dual Mono – Send your program to two
separate locations from one codec over 2 x POTS channels or 2
x ISDN channels or two IP channels.
- Bonded Mono – Bad phone lines in your
area? Bond two telephone lines together and combine their low
bit rate connections into one high bandwidth channel to deliver
high quality audio. You are no longer restricted by bad phone
lines in your area.
A new modular Concept –
i-Mix G3 comes with 1 x POTS codec on board and plus an analogue
telephone coupler. You can add additional POTS, ISDN and GSM codec
modules into the expansion slot on the right hand side of the i-Mix
G3 or load up the IP* streaming software module to increase your
programming, mixing and communications options.
 |
ISDN: Plug in the
optional 2 x B channel ISDN card and select from G.711, G.722,
Mpeg Layer 2 and Tieline’s own Music algorithm. Tieline
is compatible with most major ISDN codec brands and is the first
to offer 15kHz stereo over a single ISDN B channel using Tieline’s
famous MUSIC algorithm. |
 |
POTS: Thanks to our
unique modem stability software and algorithm technology Tieline
has convinced even the most skeptical engineers that delivering
15kHz audio with rock solid stability over analogue telephone
lines is simple and reliable. Now i-Mix G3 offers mono, stereo,
dual mono and bonded mono connections over POTS links offering
ground breaking flexibility to broadcasters. No matter how bad
your telephone lines are, you will always get a high quality
audio link. |
 |
GSM: Plug in the optional
GSM module and deliver 7.5kHz audio over standard GSM networks
and up to 15kHz over High Speed Circuit Switched (HSCSD) GSM
networks. Simply dial between the GSM enabled codec to a POTS
landline enabled Tieline codec. Use the battery module or vehicle
power supply for a complete wireless solution. |
 |
IP: Tieline’s
IP software module has been designed to suit variable Internet
broadcasting conditions and offers a range of configurable options
to get the best results from wired and wireless networks. Connections
in the field are mostly automatic for non-technical users and
the codec can also be pre-configured by the studio engineer
before sending it out into the field. It can even be fully remote
controlled from the studio. |
16x11 Cross Point Digital Matrix
Router (DMR) Software option: Embedded in the Tieline i-Mix
G3 software is a powerful audio router allowing any audio, codec,
headphone, telephone coupler and communications input to be routed
to any local codec or remote codec output. This powerful software
option can be used to customize your preferred configuration for
local and remote off-air communications, program mixing, split headphone
monitoring PA output and even PPM meter assignment to specific audio
feeds. By purchasing the DMR unlock key you can replace thousands
of dollars worth of extra patch panel, audio routing and communications
equipment. During the 2004 Athens Games in Greece i-Mix G3 was used
to link many stadium sports events with the central production studio
while simultaneously handling off-air communications feeds. Read
about this in more detail.
The power of live off-air communications
- Instead of using expensive communications equipment or cellphones
to communicate between local and remote sites, the i-Mix G3 front
panel features yellow buttons which can be configured (using the
DMR) for your choice of one to one or one to many communications
feeds. At the touch of a button on-air talent, producers, directors
and engineers can by-pass the program feed and split headphone feeds
into comms and main program audio at either end of the link.
A 10 input 7 output fully configurable
digital mixer – Tieline combines the power of a complete
studio mixing console into a field codec featuring 5 mic line switchable
inputs offering your choice of line level (db) unbalanced (db) low
mic gain (db) medium Mic gain (db) and high mic gain (db) plus two
line level outputs, an additional auxiliary unbalanced (db) input
and output, telephone coupler in/out and POTS, ISDN and GSM in/outs,
Using the optional DMR, you can configure this digital mixer to
mix and route any input to any output of the remote or local codec.
Taking live callers in the field:
A complete telephone talkback system has been integrated including
analogue telephone coupler, front panel telephone control “cue”
and “live to air buttons” to allow live callers to managed
in the field. Mix minus audio routing ensures caller audio is separated
from the announcers audio feed and unique “Audio Ducking”
software reduces the caller’s audio by up to 30dB when they
try to talk over the announcer. When you are not using the telephone
talkback system you can use the telephone coupler as another analogue
telephone off-air communications feed.
On-board relay and RS-232 control
system (also featuring Serial, USB and LAN interfaces):
Two GPIO relay control inputs and two outputs (expandable to 8 using
the optional Tieline CAN8+8 relay box) offer a variety of internal
audio matrix routing and external machine control. Front panel hotkeys
can be programmed to trigger relay and routing state changes or
external relay devices can be interfaced to trigger machine control
at either end of your POTS, ISDN or GSM link. RS232 or raw control
data can be interfaced via the serial port and delivered to the
other end of your codec link via POTS, ISDN or GSM for external
machine control.
i-Mix G3 is still the only codec to enable
control of the remote codec audio inputs from the studio ensuring
announcers no longer have to worry about understanding correct audio
input levels. You can control one remote audio input or gang all
remote audio inputs to a single control in the studio.
Tieline Toolbox PC Software Configuration
and control software. A comprehensive PC software package
which offers complete configuration, and basic audio routing and
control of your local and remote codec is supplied free with every
i-Mix G3. Plug in your LAN cable and i-Mix G3 will automatically
assign an IP address.
Tieline i-Mix G3 is backwards compatible
with all original Tieline G1 codecs (excluding remote control) and
can be combined with the new Commander G3
field or studio rack mount codec for a complete end to end broadcast
solution.
