Zurich, Switzerland, February 29, 2008.
Leading codec manufacturer Tieline Technology recently joined eight other codec manufacturers in Munich, Germany, to successfully test IP Interoperability using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to connect according to EBU approved standards.
During testing, Tieline and its Dutch based dealer You/Com demonstrated that its codecs are SIP-compatible with those from fellow Audio-via-IP Experts Group members Orban CRL, Mayah Communications and AETA, as well as Prodys, Telos, AEQ, AVT, and Digigram.
"Since 2005 Tieline has focused intently on the development of IP solutions over wired and wireless networks," said Tieline's International Marketing Manager Darren Levy. "These recent tests are an important and significant achievement in developing interoperability between codec manufacturers over IP networks."
Tieline is a leading manufacturer of broadcast quality audio codecs and is focused on continuing to assist broadcasters during the transition from circuit switched POTS, X.21 and ISDN technologies into packet switched IP technologies.
"Tieline has taken a leadership role through the Audio-via-IP Experts Group in developing SIP interoperability," said PJ Fall, Tieline's Business Development Manager in Europe. "The interoperability tests in Munich showed the level of commitment manufacturers have in establishing a global standard for reliable broadcasting over IP networks."
"SIP-compatible codecs that are registered to SIP servers can dial and connect to other codecs and VoIP devices without knowing their IP address," said PJ Fall. "This hugely simplifies remote broadcasting over IP as there is no need for codecs to acquire static IP addresses in order to connect - even if they move between different locations."
"When Tieline codecs connect over IP using SIP, they can exchange information about algorithms, sample rates and connection bit-rates," said PJ. "SIP really is naturally suited to the IP world because of its compatibility with a diverse range of devices, its flexibility and its ability to evolve in the IP environment."
"Tieline and other European codec manufacturers are leading the world in IP interoperability using SIP," said Neil Morrish, Tieline's Research and Development Manager. "This has been driven largely by the proliferation of high-speed 3G and terrestrial LAN networks throughout Europe and the phasing out of ISDN networks."
All Tieline codecs are capable of connecting over POTS, ISDN, X.21, GSM, IP and 3GIP networks using interchangeable plug-in modules tailored to each connection transport. This allows broadcasters to maintain connectivity with current infrastructure and transition into new infrastructure as required.
Tieline recently increased its level of support in Europe by establishing a presence in Zurich, Switzerland. "I am excited about the opportunities presented within Europe and I believe that Tieline and our distribution network is well placed to assist broadcasters during the transition from older circuit switched technology to packet switched IP broadcasting," said PJ Fall. "Proving SIP interoperability is another step forward in the development of EBU standards for this method of broadcasting."
Tieline codecs featuring IP, 3GIP and SIP interoperability can be ordered for demonstration at any Tieline international office in the US, Netherlands, and Australia or from any listed Tieline dealer at www.tieline.com
